"Leadership is defining and communicating the mission; providing guidance as to how it might be accomplished; equipping people with the proper tools (information, training, etc.); motivating and inspiring through selfless dedication and respect for others; providing both positive and negative feedback, including recognition for achievement; and, ultimately, getting out of the way and giving people the ability and authority to accomplish the mission, with the full confidence they will be supported."
- Jim Parker, ex-CEO, Southwest Airlines, from his book published at the end of last year 'Do The Right Thing, How dedicated employees create loyal customers and large profits.'
Since Southwest is the most consistently profitable airline in US commercial aviation history, and worth more in value on the stock market than all the other domestic North American airlines put together, I guess he knows what he's talking about.
Thanks for your vote...
If you voted in the World Leadership Gurus Top 30, the Hub's founder, Phil Dourado, came 14th this year (2012), up three places from 17th last year. The organisers say it is "because of the originality and impact of your work" that Phil was put in the Top 30 in the first place. And that means this Hub and the award-winning corporate versions we run for large companies. For more on how a private corporate version of The Hub works, email: phildourado@theleadershiphub.com
