In a recent post, I talked about NY resolutions and why I believe there’s a better way to how we lead our lives in our chaotic and unpredictable world. I talked about GLOCO, think Global, act Local. And I offered six GLOCO principles for your reflection as we enter 2010. They are:
1) Lead your life with integrity–align your words with your actions.
2) Be a promise-keeper. If you don’t want to do something, just say No.
3) Lend a helping hand–even if it’s assisting an old lady across the street.
4) Treat people as how you like to be treated–with respect!
5) Fill an empty space…and leave a positive mark.
6) We’re on Planet Earth for a nano-second of time–look after Her.
I’d like to add something for your personal reflection.
It’s a Sanskrit quotation I recently read. It fits well with our entry into 2010.
So before you go racing off into the unknown of unrestrained activity–work, pleasure, community, home–take a moment to reflect on these words and what they mean to you.
The last decade was a rollercoaster of emotion of change: Y2K, 911, Afghanistan, Iraq, consumer overdrive, Greenspan’s “Irrational Exuberance,” gas spikes, the Bubble, the Crash, foreclosures, more Afghanistan, the Underwear Bomber, and the list goes on.
Let’s work together to make the new decade one of positive change. Here’s the quotation:
Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day. Such is the salutation to the dawn.
I hope these words help you focus on what you wish to achieve this year.
I always love hearing from you, so take a moment to drop me note, and be sure to download my new leadership e-book.

Thanks for your vote...
If you voted in the World Leadership Gurus Top 30, the Hub's founder, Phil Dourado, came 14th this year (2012), up three places from 17th last year. The organisers say it is "because of the originality and impact of your work" that Phil was put in the Top 30 in the first place. And that means this Hub and the award-winning corporate versions we run for large companies. For more on how a private corporate version of The Hub works, email: phildourado@theleadershiphub.com
Wow!
I really like your list! My favorite is number one because as leaders it is our obligation to practice GOOD character. That means being mature and showing integrity.
As humans, we are influenced by those around us and as leaders we are placed in the fishbowl. The fisbowl is where you are being watched. As a young leader in a student organization, I do get put into the situation where I do have to question the outcome. "If I really ask myself twice, it is a bad idea" because I know that the members come first (Its for them...Always)
Thank you for your list of six! I am sure to share this with my officer team ;-)
Nothing Loco About GLOCO
Great list of principles Jim.
