Who are the fresh new voices in leadership?
I've been part of an Amazon discussion group on 'Who Are The Fresh Voices in Leadership Theory' and it's recently become quite active and interesting. So, click on the link if you want to read what they are saying. I've been doing some work with someone I find increasingly impressive, Alper Utku of the Middle East Management Centre, and I think he qualifies as a fresh new voice who seems able to synthesize a lot of new thinking and apply it to leadership. He's teaching me a lot. I'll share some of that shortly. Phil

Can you name the CEO of Toyota? (From Rob Roe, via Amazon)
Hub Member Robinson Roe posted this recently over in the Amazon discussion group on the link above. It's a very nice point from Rob. I especially like this form of words he uses "The new leaders will be the ones who know how to lead an organisation as an ecosystem, not as a hierarchical structure.":
"I agree with Michael Lee Stallard regarding the problems of "star systems on steriods". The new leaders will be the ones that know how to lead an organisation as an ecosystem, not as a hierarchial structure. However Wall Street analysts want to see "star" CEOs and these are the ones boards seek to recruit. Times will change, the connected world will see to that. In the meantime suggested reading, Tom Malone's "The Future of Work" and Don Tapscott's "Wikinomics". (Used their thinking in my post A Framework to Forecast the Future of Working). A company that operates like this is Toyota, suggested reading Jeff Liker's "The Toyota Way", and they continue to be very successful. What we need is for the Wall Street analysts to look for the new leaders not the old style "star" leaders. We can all name the CEOs of GE, IBM, Microsoft, etc but can you name the CEO of Toyota?
