Phil's comments about remembering not to panic in a down turn and working with clients in the financial services industry led me to think of the sometimes inevitable loss of people this means. The connection with leadership and organisational processes came to mind when I recalled some really ‘classic’ examples of how not to let people go last time we had a downturn.

It is interesting to read comments directed at senior management when going through periods of mass change.

People feel increasingly threatened, as is natural when you believe your job is on the line, but what is clear is that the people who survive are the ones who have a positive attitude to change an can find the benefits to themselves, their staff and the organisation as a whole.

I picked this up from Ed Batista's blog, where he reviews the book Why Bad Presentations Happen To Good Causes, by Andy Goodman
