Dan Eldon

Dan Eldon

Dan Eldon was the son of one of our Hub members, Mike Eldon. Mike created The Dan Eldon Place of Tomorrow (The Depot - www.depotkenya.org ) in Kenya, to continue Dan's legacy by helping others develop their creativity, leadership and social awareness. The Depot helps develop leadership in young people.

Dan is an inspiration because he LED (capitalised because of its importance) a creative and full life, achieving in his 22 years what many fail to achieve all their life. He co-founded Student Transport Aid (just one of his projects) and, with thirteen other young people, headed off with Land Rovers to help refugees fleeing Mozambique.

Part of his Mission Statement for that trip read:

"If you are broken down, look for solutions, not problems.

There is very little difference between being lost and exploring.

The most important part of vehicle maintenance is clean windows,

so if you're broken down, you'll enjoy the beauty of the view."

Dan Eldon loved Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem, which was found among his belongings:

SUCCESS

To laugh often and love much
To win respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children

To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends

To appreciate beauty
To find the best in others
To leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition

To know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
