My Hub experience
- Areas I want to develop
A quote that keeps me trying to make the world a better place is "all organisations are prisons, some just serve better food" I am a middle level manager inside a large organisation, my fourth in my career so far and I want to change that quote, it is too true!
 I started my blog Management Myth Busters to share my thoughts and find out better ways to lead. As a believer of "no one is as smart as all of us" I am hoping the Leadership Hub will create some great collective wisdom. Thanks for setting this up.
My three goals;
1/ As a life long learner I want to find out what other people are doing to create effective organisations. Ones that people love to work in.
2/ Learn how to get others to open up and have "aha" moments to see that common wisdom often isn't all that wise, there are better ways to do things out there we just need to look and be accepting.
3/ I am using experiential learning techniques with my folks (and my bosses sometimes) and I would like to discover more as well as get feedback on the ones I use. I will share them in the hub.
- Expertise I bring to The Hub
1/ I have managed teams in North America, Europe and Asia gaining a great insight in how to operate a global operation. The rule "one size never fits all" is definitely true however there are techniques you can use to create a global company with local flexibility.
2/ There is still a great gap between the technology and business worlds. The world I operate in is straddling both through running a business unit in a technology company. Often I end up advising start ups on how they can move from being technology companies to business solutions. I frequently present on innovation especially on disruptive technologies as per Clayton Christensen's "Innovator's Dilemma" research.
 3/ The way I operate is to be strategically tactical. What I mean by this is to determine our strategic direction and to execute tactical actions that align to this. Often strategy fails at the execution phase. I have done a lot of work on making sure the execution piece is there without losing sight of the overall strategy. Â

4th July - Independence Day for Some, Reflection time for this project
The challenge for this project is “getting things to add up”. It is relatively easy to produce measurements. We measure lots of things and can group them into the four quadrants of the balanced scorecard, but what does it mean?
June 2nd - Gone Missing
Sorry folks for having “gone missing”.
Yes the architext is right I have been sucked back into my daily work. Added to this I went back to Uni part-time doing a Masters in Management (Strategic Foresight). In this course we are exploring models like Clare Graves’ Spiral Dynamics, Ken Wilber’s Integral Quadrants and Peter Checkland’s Soft Systems methodology. I have a 3,000 word eassy due in tomorrow! Luckily I have nearly completed the draft.
Update 24 December (Christmas Eve) 2007 - The Executive Pitch
Well folks on Friday, my last day in the office for 2007, I sent the two levels of management above me and one manager above and to the left, a flash demo of the reporting that we have created. The objective is to gain executive sponsorship to bring our project into the mainstream and become the reporting scorecard the division uses.
