My leadership log

Lessons from America

Have just come back from America. Collected a bunch of ideas, from dog magazines to ice-cream parlours!

Open source creating

A quick recap. I run a project called Star Wards which works with mental health trusts to improve the experiences and outcomes of psychiatric patients in hospital. We've now got 200 wards taking part, which is almost half the wards in the country. This has happened in less than a year, and with a colleague working 2 hours a month and me trying to work full-time if my mental health allows. So it's been pretty astronomical! If anyone's interested, I could describe the reasons for acute psychiatric wards embracing our 'service improvement programme' so enthusiastically.

Earliest thoughts on leadership

Hmm. I've thought a lot about leadership in relation to my Star Wards work, but not in terms of me as a leader. I've identified more as a catalyst and convenor and uber-networker. But I guess I am the leader, if leadership means some combination of identifying priorities, motivating people, working out strategy and implementing plans to achieve the objectives.
