We just had the Wayne Turmel podcast on communication, and it seemed appropriate to continue the theme with a few quotes…

There is nothing so simple that someone can’t misunderstand it. Almost always, the problem can be traced to communications.
-- Pat Croce

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.
-- George Bernard Shaw

Communication works for those who work at it.
-- John Powell

Communication is the real work of leadership
-- Nitin Nohria

No 3 is particularly good

Particularly apt that one. What is interesting is if you try to assess whether you communicate more with some than you do with others, and then how much better it is working with the some. The logical conclusion to that is, up your communications game with the others and everything gets better. Colin.

One More for the Mix

How is this for a wonder sum-up of leadership and communication!!! Honesty characterizes the person and enables him to create an identity, to communicate a real presence, and to establish authentic bonds with others. The individual increasingly comes to know who he is through the stand he takes when he expresses his ideas, values, beliefs, and convictions, and through the declaration and ownership of his feelings. Clark Moustakas Kate

Indeed

Agreed Colin. Typically more communication equals fewer problems... Thanks for the definition/quote, Kate. We could certainly benefit if more followed that one.

"All of the great leaders have had one characteristic in common: it was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxiety of their people in their time. This, and not much else, is the essence of leadership."
